WHAT IS TOM TOM FOUNDERS FESTIVAL?

One week of free block parties, beer gardens, concerts, art installations, showcases, innovation demos, pitch nights, and more.

The festival takes place in the Spring over Founders Weekend throughout Downtown Charlottesville. These mostly free events are creative canvases that transform the City with hundreds of free talks, concerts, competitions, parties, and expositions. As a stage for the region's creativity and exploring national conversations, it builds community and creates connections between disciplines. Named for Thomas Jefferson, the festival falls on his birthday week. This year's events are April 13-19, learn more here.

WHAT'S WITH THE BUFFALO?

It's a funky representation of the spirit of Tom Tom and quite frankly a badass animal.

The festival celebrates innovative explorers on the frontier. One of the things that Lewis and Clark brought back from their exploration of the American West was a buffalo hide adorned with Native American painting and cartography. Thomas Jefferson financed that trip, and the hide now hangs in the foyer of his estate, Monticello, as a reminder of the value of adventurous research into American frontiers. Tom Tom now celebrates that legacy alongside the founders of today.
